Current students

Program deadlines and class size vary. Admission to the Medical Laboratory Science Program requires satisfactory grades in prerequisite course work and acceptance into the professional program.

A 2.00 UI GPA is required with no grade lower than a C for prerequisite and general education courses.

Next steps: professional program admission

In order to apply to the MLS professional program, you'll need to do the following:

  1. Read, sign and date the Essential and Technical Standards. (If you are uncertain as to your ability with any of these essential functions, please consult with the MLS Program Director at mls-program@uiowa.edu)

  2. Complete the application for admission.

    • Provide two references (one college science professor or teaching assistant and one former/current employer) via the reference form.

    • Write a one-page essay describing why you’ve chosen MLS as a career and your future plans as an MLS.

  3. Once complete, send the Essential and Technical Standards document, application form, reference form and essay to mls-program@uiowa.edu
