Donor Intent: The purpose is to provide programmatic support along with one or more annual scholarships to deserving students enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program in the Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa. Emphasis is on those who demonstrate merit and are in good academic standing.
Preference may be given to students from the state of Iowa with secondary preference given to students from the state of Missouri.
Scholarship(s) will be awarded at $1000.00 each.
Scholarships may be renewed as long as recipients remain in good academic standing and continue to meet the criteria and requirements.
Application and deadline
Applications will be accepted during the month August. Deadline is August 31st at 5 p.m.
GPA requirement:
A grade of 2.0 or higher must be maintained in all science coursework.

- How does Medical Laboratory Science fit into your long-term career goals and what have you done to prepare yourself?
- Please describe any volunteer or community service activities you have participated in and describe the impact it had on you, your life, and those served.
About the donors
David Buhr graduated from the University of Iowa MLS Program, using the GI Bill after serving in Vietnam and Germany in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He later obtained a Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration and worked for The Joint Commission as a laboratory surveyor and healthcare consultant. After serving 30 years in a large rural medical center, he retired as an executive member of the management team.
Pamela Buhr attended the University of Iowa and later worked at two medical centers, eventually retiring from the Missouri Orthopedic Institute at the University of Missouri.
Both David and Pamela have spent many years volunteering for several organizations in various capacities and continue to use their time and talents in this way.
